A menstruator looks at a menstrual cup filled with blood as she wonders if the June cup is safe. (It is!)

Is the $8 June Menstrual Cup Safe?

Uncovering How We Sell our Menstrual Cups for $8

When we saw the economic impact that COVID-19 was having on the community, we knew we had to do something.

That’s when we decided to sell our cups for just $8 each: the amount it costs us to produce and fulfill your order.

When people learn that our menstrual cups are priced at $8, we sometimes get questions about the quality of our cup. Some people wonder what our intentions are behind pricing it so low. And, of course, they’re curious about our transparency.

If you’ve had any of these thoughts, don’t worry—we get where you’re coming from.

That’s why we think it’s so important to give you the details and answer the question -- Is the June Cup safe?

Why We Chose to Sell Our Menstrual Cups At Cost (And What That Means)

JUNE was started with the goal and mission to create menstrual care that’s researched back, healthier and ultra-comfortable.

We started JUNE just before COVID-19 sent the entire world into lockdown. Our cups were priced at $29, and we were excited to start our business.

But when March 2020 came around, we saw empty shelves all over the country. Menstruators everywhere were unable to buy the pads & tampons they relied on.

We knew we had to do something to help.

So, we made the leap and decided to sell the cups at cost, at least until the pandemic settled out.

We had absolutely no idea what would happen – but the response we received was incredible: More than 30,000 people bought a June Cup the first three months of selling them at cost.

When we saw how much of a need there was for smarter, healthier menstrual care – we decided to continue to sell our cups at cost longer than we originally intended to.

How Does JUNE Make Money?

Naturally, a lot of people ask: “But how are you making money?”

The truth is actually really simple: we aren’t making money on our cups.

JUNE is a business, and as a general rule, businesses do need to make money to keep things going.

But instead of charging the normal markup (around $30+ for a cup that costs just dollars to make), we let our other products do the profit-lifting for us.

That means our other JUNE supplies—like our sanitizer, wipes, cup cleaning kits, and period underwear—aren’t being sold at cost like the cups.

To put it simply, these products keep the lights on and ensure that we’re fulfilling our biggest goal—getting cups to people who menstruate at a fair, affordable, and accessible price.

By offering our cups at cost—$8—they’re roughly the same price as a box of tampons.

This means thousands more menstruators are able to try a quality cup without having to spend $30+ without knowing if it’ll work for them.

We might not sell our cups for $6 forever, but it feels like the right thing right now.

What You Should Know About JUNE

Selling our cups for $8 has shaken the menstrual care industry. And hey, we get it—when something is being sold much cheaper than most competing products, that can lead to you all kinds of questions, most notably, “What’s the quality if they’re only 8?”

Our decision to sell our cups at cost wasn’t one that stemmed from trying to undercut other menstrual cups, boost profits, or hatch some seedy marketing plan to bring our sales through the roof.

It was a bold decision made in direct response to the need we saw in our community.

We’re proud to work with a reputable factory that carefully crafts our medical-grade menstrual cups.

Our cups have been thoroughly tested for cytotoxicity, skin irritation, and skin sensitization and registered with the Food and Drug Administration (the federal agency of the U.S. that is responsible for protecting public health by regulating and supervising products that are safe for us to use). You can read about FDA registration here. We also own our own cup molds, and source all of our medical-grade silicone from Germany.

We’re here to do whatever we can to help transform menstrual care. Because we believe you deserve healthy, more comfortable options you can feel confident about.
