I want to TOTALLY love the June cup but I don't. Yet. I have only used it for one period so far and I am experiencing a rather unexpected learning curve. So that this review doesn't get super long, I will break it down into my top three pros and cons.
Top 3 Cons
1. Hard to put in at first, and if not in right it HURTS! This will probably resolve itself over time as I get more practice. I am a plus sized woman and I think that factors in quite a bit. Because ya' girl can't reach.
2. I lied, I only have one dislike. On to the pro's!
Top 3 Pro's
1. Very well made. The silicone doesn't feel like it is going to tear or rip, even when you're giving it a good tug whilst in the retrieval process.
2. I had SO much satisfaction emptying the cup. Knowing I was dumping it instead of smearing it all over myself just gave me feel good fuzzies. I felt cleaner...I WAS cleaner!
3. I didn't have to worry about daytime leaks...which for me is HUGE! I typically go through three or four overnight super soaker pads per day for 7-9 days straight. I am always leaking and staining my clothes. Not to mention that awkward waddle-run as we try to reach the toilet before the blood running down your leg becomes apparent to everyone around you.
4. I had to include this in...I really like the fact this is so enviromentally friendly. I'm no tree hugger but as I get older I find myself appreciating reusable items more and more.
5. I was a bit worried about cleaning the cup out but it wasn't as terrible as I was expecting. A good wipe with TP if water wasn't available did the trick. Just make sure you have a bathroom sink working...I didn't and had to do the walk of shame in front of my five kids to the kitchen sink... never again. I wiped it out and rinsed it with the bathtub faucet.
I hope this helps someone because it took forever to type out on my phone. I plan to pair this with reusable pads to catch any leaks. I did have it leak when in overnight but it shifted a LOT while I was laying down so a pad is useful for that happening again. Hence why the leaking is in the footnotes instead of the Con section.
I'm sure once I figure out how to keep the physical pain from happening when I wear this I will be thrilled that I stuck it out.
So, while I love the IDEA of the June Cup, I need a couple more months of practice before I can honestly say "I'm never going back."
