June Cup Cares
Supporting Organizations Solving the Period Poverty Epidemic
Period Poverty is a Huge Problem. PERIOD.
The World Bank Group reports that over Half a Billion women and girls around the world lack adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management.
In the US, the problem is equally as staggering:
- 2 in 5 people with periods say they have struggled to purchase period products due to lack of income at some point in their life (study)
- Nearly 1 in 10 college students experience period poverty every month, correlating with a 58% increase in symptoms of depression compared to students who did not experience period poverty (study)
- 1 in 5 teens have struggled to afford period products and 4 in 5 teens have missed class time or know someone who’s missed class time because of lack of access to period products (study)
Lack of access to affordable period products has severe consequences for those with periods, including feelings of shame, depression and isolation and fatal health risks like Toxic Shock Syndrome (“TSS”) which occur when menstrual products like tampons or pads are used for extended periods of time, often because those with periods are “stretching” their use as they are unable to afford access to these products on a regular basis.
How is The June Cup Helping?
The June Cup has always prioritized access over profits, selling our period cups for nearly half the cost of competing brands, and one tenth the annual cost of using disposable products like tampons or pads.
But that’s not enough.
The team at The June Cup is committed to supporting eligible not for profit and student organizations to provide access to affordable, reusable menstrual products to communities in need.
How can I apply?
Eligible organizations will receive subsidized pricing on bulk orders of The June Cup menstrual products. This program is limited in access and you can apply for it by emailing us at cares@thejunecup.com
